Abstract
This edition of NIU Journal of Climate Justice and Governance touches on issues such as Environmental Concerns arising from Oil and Gas Exploration and Production, Environmental Protection Policies and so on.
Using South Sudan as a case study, one of the papers, in this issue, reveals that there are statutory deficiencies in all legal provisions for setting up a decommissioning fund and there are no provisions for its application and management, which creates a lacuna for improper, haphazard and poor management and application of the funds. It therefore, recommends the need to amend the Petroleum Act, create enabling regulations and empower regulatory bodies to ensure proper and adequate application and management of the decommissioning fund to safeguard effective environmental protection of South Sudan.
Another paper also argues that the adoption of more comprehensive and proactive measures encompassing legislative and regulatory frameworks, capacity building, inclusivity and stakeholder engagement, as well as strong institutional and judicial enforcement, is essential for achieving sustainable wetland protection in oil and gas exploration and production in South Sudan.
On the whole, this edition of NIU Climate Justice and Governance features many empirical and theoretical based articles which can be of great benefit to every reader.
